Save America’s Treasures Grant

Federal Grant Received to Archive AHS Collection

On Monday, October 17, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D - CT) visited the Avon Free Public Library to congratulate them on receiving a substantial award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Save America’s Treasures Grant, which will cover a two-year project to preserve and digitize objects relevant to the agrarian history of Avon.

This federal grant will expand our collective capacity by hiring an archivist to help assess, organize, store and digitize the almost 1,000 items from the Avon Historical Society’s collection, integrating access to materials within the library and historical society’s collections.

This two-year grant will begin on November 1, 2022. Present with Senator Blumenthal were Library staff and Board of Directors, Friends of Avon Library, members of the CT Digital Archive Staff, and Town and State elected officials.
