Stories of Avon

Bill Goralski
Stories of Avon are a collection of precious short essays craftily told by Bill Goralski, who grew up in Avon then lived and worked in Farmington Valley for the rest of his life. As the 10th child of 11 children of Polish immigrants who settled in Avon in 1910, his writings convey the character of the town through a period of great change.

Bill attended Canton High School for three years. In 1946 he left to live and study at Trinity School in New York City on a scholarship for two years. Having earned a B.A. and M.A. from Trinity College in 1955, Bill then returned to Farmington Valley to teach Social Studies at Simsbury High School for several decades. Bill passed away peacefully in December 2014 at the age of 85, having written six books after his retirement.
