The Avon Historical Society in partnership with the Avon Free Public Library and Avon Senior Center, won a grant from CT Humanities in 2019 to run a yearlong series of events and webinars to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.
Entitled, “DEEDS NOT WORDS: 100 Years of the Vote for Women,” there were 24 events between November 2019 and October 2020 such as movies, in-person talks, exhibits, and later webinars (when the pandemic began) with over 800 people attending either in person or virtually. The response was overwhelming as many museums and historical societies nationally did not cease their commemoration to make sure the public was made fully aware of this monumental time in our country’s recent history.
